welcome

Nick Sanders MBE is best known for his extreme motorcycle and bicycle journeys. Nick was a recipient of an MBE from this years Queen's Birthday Honours for services to endurance motorcycling and endurance cycling.

As a motorcyclist, Nick has ridden around the world 7 times on a motorbike (once in a Guinness record of 30 days then again in 19 days). This was followed by 8 rides up and down the Americas (Ushuaia to Deadhorse), once in a record 21 days 8 hours then a double transit in 46 days. His mileage so far has totalled over one million kilometres.

As a cyclist, Nick has also ridden around the world twice by bicycle including his Guinness record-breaking circumnavigation in 79 days. Between 1983 & Nick cycled solo across the Sahara Desert, the length of Indonesia, from Ushuaia to Quito and the full length of the River Nile and back from Cairo to Burundi. In 1986 he cycled the 4602 miles around the coast of Britain twice, the second time in 22 days, still, after 32 years it remains an unbroken Guinness record. As well as holding licenses to fly microlights and hot air balloons, he has also sailed a pair of traditional narrowboats on the longest such journey from the Black Country in the UK to the Black Sea.

This is my 10th circumnavigation, 8 by motor bike, twice by bicycle. It's not catalogued as each day happens but as Moments come about, it's amongst the best material I have ever attempted. It's about the ordinary fabric of adventure. I hope you like them.

Somewhere a little closer to home (Nick's actual home in fact), hidden among the Welsh hills is his Expedition Centre. Run with his wife Dr. Caroline, we have approximately 10 weekends now available for biker and cycling groups. In the hills the narrow roads are nearly traffic-free and the Welsh landscape is extraordinarily beautiful.

Food is excellent, cabins super clean and tidy, there is a small cinema on site for evening viewings and a very cool social area in the 'log-shed' where we can swop out stories!

If you wish to bring a group from your motorcycle or cycling club please contact Caroline on 07747 777455

LATEST book: russia. mongolia. motorcycle. me.

At last, 4 years after publishing his best selling double volume autobiography, "Extraordinary Life of an Ordinary Man," comes his latest book, " Russia  Mongolia  Motorcycle  Me." His shortest travelogue but without doubt his best. Nick Sanders' latest publication has been reviewed by Guardian columnist Simon Jenkins as ".... a minor masterpiece ..." and continues, " ... one of the best short travelogues I know ..."

It was a solo journey and I wanted to try and explain the mind of a biker far away from home. As it says in the preface, "I’ve always loved words because somehow, they have a power to lead the mind out of smallness. There is a dynamic in words. They grow things, thoughts, ideas. In a sense they grow everything." Ever since during an earlier journey to the source of the River Nile I have educated myself with them, published books not everyone wanted to read then did it again, more journeys, more books. If a picture captures a thousand words, for me, a word scrapes underneath the photograph, taking ownership of what the image is trying to say.
