The Route - Stage
5
The final stage of Parallel World starts in Santiago
de Chile, goes south to Tierra del Fuego and then
heads north, maybe through Paraguay and Uraguay,
possibly over the Andes and Chile, ("I
might pop into Bolivia"), Peru, Equador
and Columbia. Once Central America is crossed
the journey continues to North America and Proudhoe
Bay, the northernmost point of the Americas. Nick
then heads down through the Southern States of
America before climbing north-east to end Stage
5 in New York City. All that remains is the final
loop to North Cape and then back to London.
Weather Conditions
In the deep south, at latitude 55, Tierra del
Fuego is entering her winter
and there will be snow on the road. The R1 is
not well suited to such conditions so we're looking
at possibly having a set of wheels made to facilitate
off-road tyres which would be flown out to Nick.
It is semi-tropical in the central Americas and
will be hot summers in the north,.
Concerns
"I don't have any on this part of the
trip as I've done it before. Colombia is much
safer and Central America has been calm for more
than 10 years. Any troubles in southern Mexico
seem to be less than they were, so my only focus
is staying upright in the snow."
